Yale Presidency

By Robert O. Boorstin

Ten candidates remain in contention for the presidency of Yale University, William Bundy, head of the search committee, said Monday.

University officials declined to comment yesterday on the identity of the remaining candidates.

The Yale Graduate Professional, a weekly newspaper produced by Yale graduate students, recently listed three possible candidates.

The people are William Scranton, former governor of Pennsylvania, Prosser Gifford, professor of Government and dean of faculty at Amherst College and William McNerney, president of Blue Cross Inc.

Lance M. Liebman, professor of Law and a member of the Yale Corporation, declined comment yesterday on the newspaper's speculations.

The Yale Corporation promised a decision by January 1, but sources said yesterday that a final decision may be reached at a December 6 meeting in Washington D.C.
