Freshmen Challenge CHUL Elections

Several freshmen have said the elections held Monday for representatives to the Committee on Housing and Undergraduate Life (CHUL) should be rerun because of bad publicity and lack of interest.

Jeff Hoyt '81, one of the four to vie for the position as representative to the Committee on Housing and Undergraduate Life, ran on the "protest, uninformed" ballot in the preliminary elections and received 71 votes.

"I'm running on a platform protesting this election since very few people knew what CHUL is or were aware this election since very few people know what CHUL is or were aware this election was going to take place," Hoyt said Monday night.

A freshman CHUL representative must be picked quickly since most of the representatives from the Houses have already been elected, Geoff Nicholson '81, moderator for the Freshman Council said yesterday.

Publicity on the nature of both CHUL and the elections was available at an information table set up in the Union for three days last week, Vicki Harding '81, head of the election committee, said yesterday.

"When I was given my ballot sheets I had no idea what the hell was going on," a freshman, who wished to remain unidentified, said yesterday.
