Approximately 50 people listened to Indian music in Cabot living room at South House as the Learning from Performers series presented Ustad Asad Alli Khan, who is touring the United States this fall with his accompianist, Pundit Gopaldas.
Khan plays the been, the oldest classical string instrument on the Indian subcontinent, and Gopaldas plays the pukhawaj, a barrel drum that is India's most ancient percussion instrument.
Kahn has previously toured throughout Europe and Asia, but he has never visited the United States.
Kahn said about Americans, "They are very interested in Indian music, but they don't know as much as Europeans. They are also," he added, "very crazy people."
