"The rule of law has been severely eroded since 1961 in South Africa and I don't see much hope for an evolutionary solutions," South African novelist and political activist Alan Paton said last night in his third and final William Belden Noble Lecture.
Paton spoke on the continual erosion of civil liberties and human rights in South Africa, specifically criticizing the nation's repressive police tactics.
"It is ironic that this government should be so sensitive to any suggestion that its regime is in any way related to that of the Nazis," Paton said.
