Allen Stabbed In Skirmish

One of the three men sentenced to life imprisonment early this year for the fatal stabbing of Harvard senior Andrew Puopolo was stabbed yesterday in a fight at Massachusetts State Prison at Walpole.

Richard S. Allen received several wounds, the most serious to his arm, in a skirmish shortly after lunch when prisoners were out of their cells. He was taken to Norwood Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Larry Parnell, public information officer for the Department of Corrections, said last night, a suspect has been identified and segregated from other prisoners. Since he has not been charged, his name has not been released.

Parnell, who termed the incident "serious," added that an investigation will be conducted "at least by the Department of Correction, if not by the district attorney's office in Norfolk County."
