Holy, Cross College of Worcester recently was chosen as "the best maintained educational institution grounds in the United States" by the Professional Grounds Management Society.

James D. Long, grounds foreman for Holy Cross said yesterday that five levels of terraced landscaping, as well as the school's location atop Mount James, probably resulted in the school's selection.

J. Lawrence Joyce, director of building and grounds at Harvard, said yesterday he was not aware that the Professional Grounds Society existed but "will definitely look into it and consider competing for such an award next year.

"We have always received fine compliments by visitors on how well our own grounds are kept", Joyce said. "At commencement, alumni often comment on how well kept our yard is" he added.
