8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
The University Health Services (UHS) is investigating a possible food poisoning case in the Kirkland House Dining Hall. Four House residents complained to UHS about stomach disorders Tuesday night. Two still remain in the infirmary.
A freshman who ate at the Union Tuesday, a Kirkland House resident who ate off campus, and a Currier House resident reported to UHS with the same symptoms.
Five of the students ate swiss steak in the dining halls before going to UHS, Dr. Warren E.C. Wacker, director of UHS, said yesterday.
Cases of the disease, gastroentromitis, are fairly common, Wacker said. "When we get any more than two cases from one dining hall, we investigate," he added.
UHS will conduct bacteriological tests to determine whether the students' symptoms are caused by a viral illness, a bacterial illness, or a bacterial toxin.
Symptoms of gastroentromitis include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps with or without fever.
