The Freshman basketball squad traveled across the river to Northeastern and came away with an 83-54 laugher over the weekend.
Early on, it seemed as though the Yardlings might have some unexpected trouble, as they were matched hoop for hoop by their pesky opponents.
With ten minutes gone, the contest was knotted at 26-26, but the yardlings peeled out and Northeastern was left waiting at the curb. At halftime, Harvard had taken a 40-26 lead.
The Crimson made good use of a fluid fast-break offense, as its opponent lost the trace of poise it had shown in the first period.
Big Gun
Mark Hadley was the big gun for the freshmen, pouring in 18 points while clearing the boards for 21 rebounds. Tom Russo pulled down 13 rebounds to go with his 12 points.
The freshmen played a fine game both offensively and defensively. The rebounds by Russo and Hadley keyed the fast break, and more importantly frustrated the Huskies.
Frustration turned to desperation as Northeastern went to a run-and-shoot style of play resulting in poor shot selection.
As the Harvard lead ballooned in the second half, coach Buddy O'Neill cleared the bench. Every Crimson player who saw action added to the score.
The Freshmen appear to have the talent to do some knocking on Satch's door. They sport a 6-1 record and face an Ivy League challenge on Wednesday against Dart-mouth at home.
