J.V. Romps, 10-3, As Icemen Avenge Loss to Bud Kings

The Harvard J.V. hockey team trounced the semi-pro Budweiser Kings Saturday afternoon, 10-3. The Crimson iced the victory with three successive goals in a two-minute span during the final period.

The Watson Rink barrage is the largest scoring output of the junior varsity season and avenges a 4-3 loss to the Budmen earlier this season.

The Crimson skated to a 3-1 first period lead behind the stylish stickwork of Mike Clasby and Steve Andrews. Clasby tallied first for the J.V., assisted by Andrews. Less than a minute later Clasby returned the favor (and the puck) and Andrews converted at 8:17.

After an even second period in which each team scored twice the older Buds went flat. The Kings are made up of area college graduates and their skating fizzled in the third period.

J.V. coach Joe Bertagna '73 watched in shock as the Crimson used the final minutes for goal-scoring practice. Bertagna is a former Harvard goaltender and was minding the nets for the Kings when his charges scored five unanswered goals.

The onslaught was highlighted by three quick goals after the Kings' Bucky sides received a major penalty for fighting. Dave Schuster scored at 14:36 to hike the Crimson lead to 7-3. Mike Clasby followed with his second goal of the afternoon and John Moot tallied at 16:19
