Lawrence Maguire, head of MIT's Student Employment Services for the past three years, will assume the directorship of the Harvard Student Employment Office on August 1.
Maguire will fill the position formerly held by John S. Harwell, who will become Harvard's assistant director of fiscal services.
According to a colleague at MIT who asked to remain anonymous, Maguire believes there is "unrealized potential" in the present student employment program at Harvard, and wants both to expand current programs and develop new ones.
The source added that that Maguire feels students are not "second-rate employees," and therefore should have more employment opportunities opened to them in the skilled labor market.
Both Maguire and Harwell are on vacation this week and could not be reached for comment.
