The exciting Detroit Tigers put on a show last night at Fenway Park, banging out two hits en route to a 3-0 loss to the Red Sox. Ron LeFlore and Alex Johnson led the attack with a single apiece bunched into the first three innings, but the Bengals were unable to capitalize on the outbursts.

Meanwhile, Fred Lynn drove in Carlton Fisk with a fourth inning tally to put the Sox ahead, 1-0, providing starter Rick Wise with all the cushion he needed. Wise raised his record to 2-3 with his shutout performance.

Insurance Runs

Fisk provided the Sox with two insurance runs in the sixth inning, when he touched Detroit starter Dave Roberts (3-3) for a weak ground ball single up the middle, following a single by Rick Miller and a double by rightfielder Dwight Evans.

LeFlore's third-inning base hit extended his hitting streak to 26 games, while the Tigers dropped their 18th game in 32 outings. The Red Sox victory left the team at 16-18, two games behind the second-place Orioles who lost to the Cleveland Indians by a 4-0 score.
