Laxwomen Fall, But Place Several on All-Star Team

By Marc M. Sadowsky

The Radcliffe lacrosse team played its season finales over the weekend and came away with two losses and a tie at the New Englands in Wallingford, Connecticut.

There were a few bright spots for the laxwomen, however. The tournament determined a collegiate all-star team of collegians and club players from all over New England, and the crossers were represented on both.

Laurie Benton and Anne Johnson made the first team for the collegians; Nancy Kerrebrock made the second team; and Laura Johnson and Chloe Gavin received honorable mention.

The collegiate all-stars faced each other and various club teams Sunday in a round-robin test to determine who would represent New England in the national tournament.

Laurie Benton joined coach Debi Field on the first New England team, which will represent the region at the nationals next month. Anne Johnson made the third team and freshman Nancy Kerrebrock made the fourth team.

"It was pretty exciting," Kerrebrock said last night. "It was a good opportunity for people on the Radcliffe team to play against really good players," she added.

But the laxwomen dropped their two remaining contests. After losing to Brown, 10-2, for the second time this season, the crossers almost snagged a victory from Bridgewater State, whom they were beating 2-1 at the half. Bridgewater came back with five goals in the second half, though, while the 'Cliffe could only muster three.

The team's high point was a 5-5 tie with Williams. Earlier this season Williams bested the laxwomen, 13-5.
