President Bok will appoint an advisory committee of medical school faculty to help him choose among 20-25 leading candidates to replace retiring Dean Robert H. Ebert.
Bok said last night he will appoint 4 or 5 people to help look into the candidates' backgrounds and to act as an informal discussion group. Bok announced his plans at a meeting of the Medical School's faculty council yesterday afternoon.
A source on the council said yesterday this was the first indication that the faculty would be consulted about the selection.
Over 200 U.S. medical and health authorities have written Bok with suggestions for the appointment, and Bok with said "significant support shakes down to the 20-25 range." He added that he hopes the investigative and background work will be completed by the end of the summer.
