To The Editors of The Crimson:

I read with interest your article on the housing project which the University is planning to build in Allston. What a perfect opportunity to put into practice some of the planning ideas which members of the faculty advocate.

For example, instead of having the major access to the development be an entry ramp to the Mass Pike, why not cooperate with the MBTA to expand bus or trolley service to the area and lay out the buildings for easy ommunication with the bus stops.

The inclusion of housing for the elderly in the proposed project is commendable, there is certainly a need for such housing. Why not go one step further and put the idea of scatter site housing into effect. In such a large, new development it would be relatively easy to include a small low income housing project.

The administration is likely to regard these suggestions in much the same manner as it currently regards affirmative action. Letting individual faculty members support it in print and in lectures, but avoiding compliance in practice. Harvard recommends integration to others, but for its own projects chooses nice elderly people instead of low income tenants. Diana K. Appelbaum
