Yale's women's crew will have shower facilities any day now, rower Jennie Kiesling said last night.
A zoning variance was obtained very easily Tuesday from the Derby, Conn. city government, DeLaney Kiphuth, Yale's Athletic director, raid last night. "The water should be on within 24 hours, and that means by tomorrow," he added.
But Kiesling said workmen are still installing water pipes. "We've scheduled split shift use of the men's heavy weight locker and shower room with the men's light weights," she said.
"We're not complaining, though, for now. We want permanent shower facilities with a locker room, and for political reasons will do with what we've got for the time being," Kiesling added.
Kiphuth said he knows that women want their own permanent shower and locker room. The university is working on plans for such facilities, he said.
