Vellucci Probably Will Be Elected Cambridge Mayor

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

City Councilor Alfred E. Vellucci will probably be elected mayor at tonight's Cambridge City Council meeting, a source on the council said last night.

A combination of four liberal votes and Vellucci's own vote is expected to put Vellucci over the top.

The source said that the liberals were negotiating with Vellucci to determine exactly what pledges they will receive in return for their ballots.

Deadlock

The city council's balloting for a new mayor has been deadlocked since the council's first meeting on January 5.

The mayor of Cambridge presides over council meetings, has his or her own office and entertainment fund, and receives $1000 more a year in pay than other councilors.
