Racquetwomen Fall to Williams, Trinity

The Radcliffe squash team played its last two intercollegiate matches yesterday, but came up empty-handed. The seven made the long trip to Williams, only to lose to both Williams and Trinity.

The racquetwomen were victimized by Williams. In its assault, Williams allowed the Cliffe only two victories.

The victories for Radcliffe came at the first and second positions, where captain Susy Handy mastered her opponent in three games, while Julia Moore dropped the first game before taking the next three and the match.

"Susy played her best match of the year," coach Eric Cutler '40 said last night. "Julia played very well, too. It was a difficult match but she concentrated," he added.

Sally Blair had the closest match, but it was in a losing effort. Blair lost in five games. "Sally came very close," Cutler said. "She was a little frustrated by the courts. She found them a little difficult to play in," he added.

At number four, Emmi Levin lost in three games. Susanna deSola, who had gone to her brother's weekend wedding in El Salvador, also lost in three games. "I was a bit sluggish," deSola said last night. "I think I drank too much champagne."

Jane Hadsel, at number six, lost in three, while Liz Schafer, playing in the seventh spot, fell in four.

Trinity's potent squad devastated the racquetwomen, relinquishing only two games during the match.

Hadsel and Schafer were the only players who could muster games against Trinity, while Handy, Moore, Blair, deSola and Levin were blanked.

The top four racquetwomen travel to Hanover Friday to play in the nationals with 58 other top collegiate players.
