The Radcliffe swim team traveled to Boston University Saturday with high hopes of winning its season opener, but ended up a soggy loser to the Terriers, 55-76.
Freestyler Jane Fayer and versatile swimmer Maura Costin provided the highlights of the meet for Radcliffe by nabbing three first-place finishes each.
Fayer won the 50-yd. freestyle event in 25.8 seconds, the 100-yd. freestyle in 58.9, and the 200-yd. individual medley in 2:20.0, the 200-yd. butterfly in 2:17.9 and the 1000-yd. freestyle in 11:11.
"We had a lot of wins," assistant coach Paula Newman said yesterday, adding, "We just didn't get the second and third place finishes we needed."
"It was out first meet and B.U.'s fifth meet," Newman said, "and that made the difference."
