Ivy Tuitions Up

Brown and Princeton Universities will raise college tuitions again next year, representatives of the universities said yesterday.

Kelsey Murdoch, assistant to the president of Brown University, said the increase will be in the area of 8 to 10 per cent, the Associated Press reported Wednesday. "We have said all along that tuition could be raised," Murdoch said.

The expected increase will raise tuition at Brown from its present level of $3900 to approximately $4250. Total cost for a year at Brown, including room and board, will rise to approximately $6100.

Tuition at Princeton will go up next year, Richard R. Spies, assistant provost said yesterday, although he refused to disclose by how much.

The Daily Princetonian, the undergraduate newspaper, reported last Friday that the increase will be between $375 and $400. Total costs will rise to an average of $6025, the paper said.

Tuition costs at Harvard will also be raised for next year. Robert E. Kaufman '62, assistant dean for financial affairs, said yesterday, There will be an increase of about $200 to $400, but he added that his figures are only estimates since the final decision will not be made until late January.
