Harvard Booters Lose a Close One To the Quakers

By Daniel Gil

The Crimson booters were unable to find the net last night, allowing the University of Pennsylvania squad to slip away with a 1-0 victory.

The goal that got away came at 13:40 of the second half on a break down the right side.

Harvard played Penn evenly all the way, collecting ten saves to the Quakers' 11 and outshooting them 18-13. But the offense could not click in front. A Quaker fullback denied the Crimson an early lead, kicking out a Lyman Bullard head in the opening minutes.

And with two minutes remaining Harvard struck out on another golden opportunity. Mike Lohrer crossed the ball over the Penn goalkeeper but Eric Zager missed the open net. And that was the ballgame.

The Crimson defense turned in a solid performance, led by Matt Bowyer at sweeper fullback. It is small consolation, however, to the untracked Crimson, whose record is now 2-10.
