Multi-Media Thoughts For Saturday

ABC will be calling the shots on Saturday, football fans, so be sure your Month - at-a-Glance has the special 12:55 p.m. kick off time jotted down. Tailgate picnics should be shortened drastically by this measure, and as for the early starting time's effect on the players, well, only Roone Arledge knows for sure.

RECORD DEPARTMENT:

McDermott isn't the only one who'll be chasing records. JIM KUBACKI [shown above] has been plagued by injuries and poor performances in the last few games, but all excuses should be atoned for on Saturday, when the senior quarterback will most likely become the all-time total offense leader for Harvard. Going into the Yale contest, Kubacki had narrowed his year long pursuit of Dick Clasby's '54 career mark to just 46 yards. In addition, Kubacki needs two touchdown passes to surpass the career t.d. toss mark of 20 by Ric Zimmerman '68...

Running back Tommy Winn also closes out his third and final super season on the varsity in Gayle Sayers-like fashion. An embarrassing day of 39 yards rushing would still vault the 5'9" fireplug to fourth spot on the all-time Harvard rushing parade, and insure him his third straight season as the Crimson's top rusher...

And last season's Yale game hero, senior kicker Mike Lynch, needs to crank 11 more points over the crossbar to boot Richie Szaro '71 out as Harvard's all-time kick-scoring leader.

The Game will be televised regionally by ABC and will be the second time this season that the Crimson has been on the tube. Their first appearance, a 24-13 waxing of Umass, has already been nominated for an Emmy, and only time will tell whether or not Yale handles their gridiron screen test with stage fright or hamming.

Brotherly love should mix like olive oil and apple juice on Saturday when the Spagnola brothers face each other Larry is Harvard's starting center and sibling rival John a star receiver for Yale. Luckily the two will not be on the field at the same time with the Ivy Championship at stake.

Senior tight end BOB McDERMOTT will try to net yet another record, since he needs just two catches to surpass Pete Varney '71 as Harvard's career leader in tight end receptions. With those two grabs McDermott, who already holds the record for most career years by a tight end, would also move to third place on Harvard's all-time reception list.
