Bok, Horner Officially Great Class of 1980

Presidents Bok and Horner stressed the importance of a comprehensive liberal arts education in an era of "ethical dilemmas" and rapid social change to a small but attentive audience of freshmen at Sanders Theater last night.

The traditional welcoming speeches, usually given during freshman week, were postponed until yesterday because of scheduling complications.

Bok urged students to develop the "basic qualities of the mind" including the ability to be sensitive to inequalities and injustices in the world.

'Sufficient Knowledge'

Society needs people with "sufficient breadth of knowledge" to deal with the problems of the future, he said.

Bok advised students not to be "perpetually anxious" about their futures and their careers.

"Strike a healthy balance between the needs of the future and the opportunities of the present," he said. "Immerse
