The search to fill the vacant mastership positions of Lowell, North, and South Houses this year was a thorn in the side of President Bok.

The administration started looking last winter, but many were turning down the offer of a mastership, and it was not until May that any of the positions were filled.

Bok appointed Rulan C. Pian '44, joint professor in Music and East Asian Civilization, as South House Master, and her husband Theodore H. Pian, professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT, as co-master.

A week later Bok appointed William H. Bossert '59, McKay Professor of Applied Mathematics, as acting master of Lowell House, and his wife Mary Lee Bossert as acting co-master.

Oleg Grabar, professor of Fine Arts, and his wife Terry H. Grabar will be the acting co-masters of North House next year.
