The Radcliffe track team moved one step closer to attaining varsity status with a convincing win yesterday in a triangular meet against Somerville and Assumption high schools at the Stadium.
The Crimson squad amassed 71 points with Somerville accumulating 42 points and Assumption a meager three points for its day's effort.
Joyce Decius was one of the big heroines for Radcliffe, accounting for three firsts in the javelin, discus, and shot-put, with distances of 82 ft. 7 in., 85 ft. 6 in., and 33 ft. 7 in., respectively. In addition, Decius anchored the winning medley relay.
Mickey Holloway garnered a lot of points for the Crimson, taking a second in the long jump and the 100-yard dash, a third in the 220, and running on the 440 relay team.
All told, Radcliffe took 11 firsts in the meet. The 'Cliffe won the 440, medley and mile relays. Ann Fletcher won the 200 low hurdle with a time of 37.19 Jane Borthwick took the high jump with a leap of 4 ft. 3 1/2 in. Nicole Bourgols won the 440 in 68.7 seconds, a performance which Radcliffe coach Don Jurivich termed a "superb showing."
Lucy Wood turned in the other 'Cliffe first of the day with a 2:51 in the 880.
Other competitors for Radcliffe were Gloria Felde, with a third in the 200 low hurdles. Diana Gilligan with a third in the high jump. Pam Hooper with a third in the long jump and a second in the 220. Valerie Taylor with a second in the shotput, Cindy Young with a third in the discus, Clara Tatrallyay with a second in the high jump. Roxanne Sismandis with a third in the 880. Janet Campbell with a second in the mile. Michelle Holmes with a third in the 440, and Linda Martin with a third in the 100.
