The Harvard heavyweight crew will battle the University of Pennsylvania and Navy boats this weekend on the Schuylkill River. At stake is the Adams Cup, a praise Harvard hasn't lost since the late sixties.
The University of Pennsylvania crew, hosting this weekend's regatta, should provide the tougher competition in Saturday's race. Traditionally considered one of the strongest heavyweight crews. Penn ranked sixth this week in the national coach's poll.
The Crimson boat has already proven itself the faster against Navy this year, leaving the Midshipmen behind by 26 seconds in a race at San Diego in early April.
But the Harvard oarsmen will be careful not to let overconfidence decide the race, after their poor showing against Brown two weeks ago.
Senior number seven man Ron Shaw said. "We've been working pretty hard all week. We're looking ahead to next weekend's sprints at Princeton, but we don't want to have the same letup as we did against Brown."
Last weekend in their race against MIT, the Crimson rowers set a new course record, breaking one set on the Charles in 1947.
Next weekend all three crews will go to Princeton to compete in the eastern sprints.
