Poll Indicates Dissatisfaction With Student-Faculty Contact

Results of a survey conducted last month by Educational Resources Group (ERG) show that a significant number of undergraduates are dissatisfied with the relations they have with members of the Faculty.

Over 50 per cent of the seniors responding to the poll said they felt they cannot ask more than one professor for a recommendation to graduate school and 64 per cent of the seniors said they are dissatisfied with the amount of contact they have had with professors.

The survey also found that 74 per cent of the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors polled were dissatisfied with the amount of contact they had with Faculty members.

Approximately 2000 students returned the questionnaires on faculty-student relations, which ERG--a student group--solicited in dining halls last month.

Michael A. Kahn '78, chairman of ERG, said yesterday the large sample size indicates that the statistics are highly reliable.

Economics Low

Economics concentrators, according to the poll, have far less contact with professors than students in any other department.

Thirty per cent of those sampled said they have been rebuffed when seeking contact from professors, while 21 per cent of the students in other departments said they have the same response.
