Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
The coordinating committee of a coalition opposing cutbacks in Brown university's 1975-76 budget narrowly defeated a proposal to postpone a Friday strike vote until next Monday at a meeting that ended early yesterday morning.
Michael O'Neill a coalition, member said that the decision was made after "dorm coordinators reported to the meeting that student sentiment was extremely favorable to striking in protest against the proposed budget cuts.
The form coordinators have been keeping students informed on the budget situation and "getting feedback," O'Neill said.
Other coalition spokesmen said that the decision to go ahead with the college wide vote as planned was still subject to consideration before Friday.
Following a meeting of the Brown faculty yesterday, spokesmen said they were disappointed with the failure of the faculty to take formal action in opposition to the proposed budget cutbacks.
The faculty voted to approve the nomination of four faculty members as advisors to a student committee formed four weeks ago to study the budget cutbacks.
Students on the committee said that it ceased in function nearly two weeks ago because the administration reneged on a promise to provide it with budget information necessary to its deliberations.
The resolution passed by voice vote with the understanding that it implied no support on the part of the faculty for the student coalition's position in the budget dispute a coalition spokesman said.
The coalition has asked the administration to reverse its decision to cut back financial and student services and faculty teaching time in Brown's 1975-76 budget.
