'Cliffe JV Tennis Team Loses; St. Paul's Wins Four Singles

By Audrey H. Ingber

The Radcliffe Junior Varsity tennis squad travelled to Concord, N.H. yesterday only to lose to Saint Paul's, 4-2.

The Crimson netwomen dropped all their singles matches, but managed to salvage the doubles contests.

Kathy Fulton at number one was easily defeated, 6-0 and 6-1 while Janet Clark dropped the second slot 6-1 and 6-0. Marsha Davenport put up some stronger competition at the third slot, but she also lost with a score of 6-3 and 6-4.

Fulton and Clark faced less intimidating competition in their doubles match, and took home an 8-2 victory. Davenport and Perry Hefflefinger won second doubles, 8-5.

Doubles Win

Coach John McCarthy said his team faced strong players, especially in the first two slots. "Davenport played exceptionally well," he said. "It's the best I've seen her play. And Fulton played really well at times."

The 'Cliffe team lost to Concord Academy last Monday. On Tuesday they tied Windsor High School winning and losing two matches.

The team is looking forward to Monday, when they will face the varsity team of Emmanuel College on the Radcliffe courts.
