The Radcliffe track team ran in its first meet last Saturday in the Springfield Invitational and came away with only a third place in the 440 weight relay.
The weight relay team, which is made up of women who participate in either the discus or shot put events, covered the 440-yard distance (4 X 110) in 65.8 seconds. Cynthia Young (17 seconds), Gloria Felde (16 seconds), Diana Gilligan (17 seconds) and Clara Tatrallyay (16 seconds) combined to garner third place out of the 16 schools entered.
Team Encouraged
"We've only been running a short while," Radcliffe track coach Don Jurivick said, "so we're encouraged by the times from the meet."
In another fine performance. Nicole Bourgois ran a 71.0 second 440-yard dash while Michelle Holmes ran it in 72.0 seconds.
In field events, Valorie Taylor threw the discus 71 feet 10 inches and tossed a nine--pound shot 25 feet 3.5 inches.
