The Radcliffe basketball team demolished an inexperienced Wellesley squad on Saturday, 66-24, behind a balanced offense and an inspired defense.
The Radcliffe varsity opened up with a press that soon confused the Wellesley women which had practiced for only ten days before the hoop tilt. The tenacious defense limited Wellesley star Mary Young to a mere two points in the first half.
"We couldn't just put in the junior varsity for the second half." Cliffe captain Jeannie Guyton said, "because they had a game with Smith right afterwards." The JV team played the first half of the game against the Smith JV team which opened up a 23-10 lead over Radcliffe. The Smith team then put in its varsity for the second half which padded the final score to a lopsided 74-18.
Lisa Muscatine was the high scorer against Wellesley as the connected for 16 points. Sophomore Sue Williams scored 14 and freshman star Kathy Fulton hit for 12 as three starters finished in the double digits.
