Radcliffe's swim team left B.U. and Dartmouth to fight over second place as it topped both squads in its last home meet of the season Saturday at the IAB, 82-72-71.
B.U. touched first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the last event. To beat Dartmouth by one point in the triangular meet.
The lead changed hands several times in the meet and finally settled into a three-way tie with three individual events left, optional diving and the relay.
The 100-yard backstroke turned the side in Radcliffe's favor as freshman Laurie Downey swam away with first, supported by tri-captain Kris Krendl's fourth place finish.
Radcliffe never lost the lead again as a one-two finish in the 100-yard breaststroke by freshmen Carol Moore and Diana Borden increased the margin between the teams.
Optional Dive
Tri-captain Nancy Sato and freshmen Pam Jackson then tallied ten points with a first-second finish in the optional dives, insuring the team of victory.
Downey picked up another first early in the meet in the 100-yard 1M, one event after she led off with backstroke on Radcliffe's 200-yard relay. Borden, Sawyer and Patterson completed the winning medley.
Ailing tri-captain Maureen Murphy said yesterday. "The meet was a good way to end the season because everyone's point counted for the victory."
Next week the team travels to Providence, R.I. for the New England Championships.
