Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
The varsity wrestling team was downed last night by Springfield, 28-9, in the matmen's first match of the season. The Crimson grapplers in the lighter weights did well, but Harvard was blasted by the superb wrestlers who man the middle weights for Springfield.
David Albert (118 lbs.) lost a close 8-6 match at the beginning of the evening.
Crimson Victories
The Crimson took the next two competitions. Milt Yasunaga (126 lbs.), last year's most valuable wrestler, easily bested his opponent, 10-2. Then Bill Mulvihill (134 lbs.), completely dominated his foe and won, 7-1, putting Harvard temporarily in the lead.
This victory was particularly satisfying, since Mulvihill is a freshman, and there was some question about whether he could contribute to the team this early in his college wrestling career.
After this encouraging start, the Crimson fell victim to the powerful group of wrestlers in the middle of Springfield's lineup.
Kelly Jenson (142 lbs.) fell behind his opponent early, then made a late charge, and finally fell short, 7-6. Carlos Enriquez (150 lbs.) took an early lead but tired and lost to the Springfield matman, 5-4.
The Crimson then had to face a pair of wrestlers who Harvard Coach John Lee feels may be the two best in New England, Jay Monroe (158 lbs.) and Nick Perillo (167 lbs.), the college national champion in that class last year.
Whipped Cream
Monroe whipped Harvard's Tom Bixby by more than a dozen points, and Pirello did an equally awesome job on Jon Franklin.
Next, Harvard captain Jim Strathmeyer (176 lbs.) went up against his old nemesis Jay Mulligan. In the past, Strathmeyer has consistently bested men who have beaten Mulligan, but has never been able to finish off the Springfield grappler himself. The jinx held again last night, as Strathmeyer was pinned.
The Crimson split the last two matches, Sal D'agostino (190 lbs.) losing 5-4, before Kip Smith (UNL) won his match to end the contest.
