Some Faculty Upset By Library Closings Over Xmas Break

Several Faculty members have expressed dismay over the closing of the University's libraries over most of Christmas vacation, Myron P. Gilmore '36, acting chairman of the History Department, reported yesterday.

All libraries will be closed from Dec. 20 to Dec. 28. After the 28th, some libraries will be open to students for one or two day periods until the end of vacation, according to a Library bulletin released last week.

Samuel H. Beer, Eaton Professor of the Science of Government, said long underwear might be necessary for those who planned to work in the unheated libraries.

"I can't think of a single faculty member who isn't upset at this policy," Gilmore said.

A junior faculty member, who wished to remain anonymous, said yesterday that "the decisions about the library are being made by people who don't use it. I can appreciate the financial or other reasons for certain decisions, but I feel trapped by an unresponsive bureaucracy."
