Dr. Jean Mayer, Professor of Nutrition and Master of Dudley House, will receive the 1975 Bradford Washburn Award for "contributing to public understanding of science," the Museum of Science announced yesterday.

Mayer writes a syndicated column on nutrition and has also written books on the subject.

Previous winners of the award include George Wald, Higgins Professor of Biology, Jacques Cousteau, the underwater explorer, and Water Cronkite, the CBS anchorman.

Mayer will receive a gold medal and $5 000 from the trustees of the Museum of Science on November 23.
