An overconfident Crimson hockey squad was rudely received by host St. Louis last night as the Billikens handed Harvard a tough 5-4 loss in the City of the Golden Arch.
A scoreless first period was warning enough that Harvard would not skate out of St. Louis Arena as easily as they had on Friday night when they had drubbed St. Louis, 13-3.
In the first ten minutes of the second period, Harvard tallied three times and the Crimson's confidence appeared justified.
St. Louis came within one in that middle stanza, scoring a power play goal at 16:26 and then sneaking one by Harvard goalie John Aiken at 19:30.
St. Louis scored twice within 26 seconds to go ahead 4-3. Despite Jim McMahon's extra-man goal to tie the game, the home crowd support propelled the Billikens to notch the winner at 15:50.
