B.U. Nabs Beanpot Consolation Match

The Boston University Terriers captured third place in the Beanpot Classic last night, as they easily outdistanced Northeastern, 78-61.

Recovering from a tough first-round loss in the tournament to Boston College, B.U. started out slowly and could manage only a five-point, 39-34 advantage at halftime.

Following the intermission, however, the Terriers exploded, and, playing in front of their fans at friendly Case Center, ran Northeastern off the court.

The B.U. surge was led by Captain Kerry Walker, who hit on 11 of 16 shots and totaled 26 points for the game. Walt Chesley and Neil Burns added 18 and 15 points, respectively.

For the Huskies, who saw their record drop to 6-7 as a result of their second consecutive fourth-place finish in the tournament, John Clark was the leading scorer with 18.

A main reason for Northeastern's poor showing was the fact that Jim Connors, their captain and second leading scorer, was held to a measly five points by the tenacious Terrier defense.

With the exception of Steve Ramos, who added 10 points in the losing cause, no other Husky could hit for more than six.

Northeastern, though, will not have to wait long for a chance to revenge the defeat. They play the Terriers again Monday night, and the contest will be played on Northeastern's home court, with nothing more than pride at stake.
