Bogdanovitch Receives Award At Winthrop House Dinner

Peter Bogdanovitch accepted an award for "Best Director" from the Herman J. Mankiewicz Film Society yesterday and spoke to a Winthrop House annual dinner in honor of the senior class.

Bogdanovitch, who recently directed "Paper Moon," was in Cambridge yesterday for showing at the Orson Welles of his new, unreleased film "Daisy Miller," and for a press conference.

Peter W. Kaplan '76, president of the film society, presented a "Screen Goddess of 1974" award to Cybill Shepherd, an actress in many Bogdanovitch films, as well as the plaque to Bogdanovitch "for intelligent, sensitive movies."

Upon receiving the award Bogdanovitch said, "It's really nice getting this award because I never went to a college or university."

No Eggs

When the floor was opened for questions, which were mostly in a humorous vein, Bogdanovitch said he thought Daisy Miller was the best film he has made yet because "aside from it being the most recent film, no one walked out after the first reel or threw eggs at the screen...or me."

Bogdanovitch said he thought the outcome of the Academy Awards was "historically consistent because they are always sort of predictable."

The movie director said he did not have any plans to do anything on Broadway, but he will be making a "musical in Hollywood"called "At Long Last Love" with Shepherd, Burt Reynolds and Cloris Leachman.
