B.C. Last-Second Shot Edges UConn In NIT Quarter-Final Contest, 76-75

Paul Berwanger scored with two seconds left on the clock as Boston College rallied to edge University of Connecticut, 76-65, last night in a quarter-final game of the National Invitational Tournament in New York.

B.C. shot only 25 per cent from the floor in the first half, and went without a field goal for over eight minutes. Down by 17 with about 14 minutes to go, the Eagles mounted a furious full-court press against Connecticut, which was trying to slow the pace down.

Mark Raterink combined with Bob Carrington to provide the scoring punch as B.C. battled back to tie the game on a basket by Will Morrison with three minutes remaining.

At the nine seconds mark, two buckets by Jim Foster put Connecticut ahead 75-74 before Berwanger's game-winning goal.

Carrington and Raterink were the high scorers with 25 points each, while Tony Hanson was top man for Connecticut with 24.

B.C. finished the season with a record of 20-8, while Connecticut racked up a 19-8 performance.
