8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports

Yardling Soccer Squad Boots Elis, 4-3

By Ralph J. Banasiak

The freshman soccer squad sweetened its losing season with a 4-3 final victory over Yale yesterday afternoon in an aggressive game of Crimson offense.

"This victory redeems the whole season for us," said Coach Bruce Munro, referring to the team's second win this fall. "I thought we dominated the whole game."

Harvard controlled the ball in the first half but did not connect until halfback Brian O'Connor dented the net from 15 yards out after 30 minutes of play. The Blue tied the score minutes later when an attempted shot drew Crimson goalie Fred Herold away from the net and an Eli tallied.

Escalating Crimson

The Crimson escalated its attack in the second half with continued ball control in the Yale zone and numerous shots on goal by forwards Peter Eastwood and Jim Wolf.

Halfway through the period, Wolf put Harvard back in the lead with a penalty kick over the head of goalie Jim Mooney.

Yale battled back, finding the mark ten minutes later with a 20-yard angle shot that hung up in the cross-field wind and lofted out of Herold's reach.

Forward Bobby Sack took a pass from halfback Brian O'Connor and toed one into the net from ten yards away. Three minutes later O'Connor scored his second goal on a penalty kick.

Yale added its final tally minutes before the gun sounded.

"We expected to beat them," Jim Wolf said. "We were up for the game. The fact that it was Yale made the difference."
