Students in the Psychology and Social Relations Department plan to publish a psychology magazine next fall in conjunction with psychology departments at five other Boston area colleges.
David E. Gottlieb '75, organizer of the proposed magazine, said yesterday that the publication, to be issued four times yearly, would include reports on experiments and research by students and faculty on colloquia and on guest lectures in psychology at Harvard, Boston College, B.U., Brandeis, Northeastern and Tufts.
Gottlieb added that editorials, book reviews and a survey of mental health programs in Boston would also be included in the magazine.
Funding
Funding for the publication will come from participating psychology departments and advertising, Gottlieb said. He added that the departments at Harvard, Brandeis and Northeastern had already expressed an "enthusiastic" interest in the magazine and that the other area colleges have yet to respond.
Brendan A. Maher, professor of the Psychology of Personality at Harvard and next year's chairman of the Psychology and Social Relations Department, said yesterday that an inter-university psychology magazine was an "excellent" idea.
He added that he would be unable to determine his department's financial commitment to the publication until Gottlieb submitted a concrete budget of the expenses involved.
Gottlieb said that he and five students in the department were preparing a budget that would be available to Maher and other colleges later this month.
He said that articles in the magazine would be written for a wide audience, not necessarily just for faculty, graduate students or concentrators in psychology departments. The magazine would at first be made available to all students in participating colleges, and circulation would continue in that fashion as long as subscriptions and advertising permitted.
Writers for the magazine will be undergraduates with backgrounds in psychology, Gottlieb said. He added that faculty and graduate students would serve as guest contributors and advisers for the publication.
Gottlieb said a title for the publication would be determined at a meeting with interested students from participating colleges later this month.
