Lacrossemen Face Princeton, Seek Upset Triumph Saturday

By Philip Weiss

The Crimson lacrosse team (1-9), lionized by its first triumph over MIT Wednesday, goes Tiger-hunting tomorrow in search of an upset win over Princeton in New Jersey.

The Bengals (6-6), are 2-2 in Ivy competition and rank just behind Brown, Penn and Cornell as a contender for the crown. Last week, the Tiger stickmen lost to Penn, 15-8, but topped Dartmouth, 7-5, Harvard is 0-3 in Ivy competition.

Crimson coach Bruce Munro fields no new faces tomorrow, with defenseman Charlie Kittredge healthy and playing beside Carter McDowell and Jim Taliaferro.

"This is going to be our last tough game. They've been doing very well, and playing at Princeton isn't easy," Munro said yesterday.

Munro also noted that Princeton held Brown, which ran up a 19-7 decision over Harvard, to a 12-10 margin.

The leading scorer for the Tigers, and the most prolific Ivy scorer, is attackman Bill Chaires. Princeton's best sticks are on attack, with Jim Shea and Jonathan Pettit also shining.

The Tigers's midfields, while not sticking brilliantly, are big and hustling. Co-captains Steve Peaslee and Bob Reynolds and second-stringer Bill Brusilow have starred as middies.

"Our midfields are not as big; I just hope we're faster than they are," Munro said.

Another factor in the Bengals's favor is goalie Bill Cronin, whose generous height and girth make his somewhat sloppy goaltending very effective.

In other lacrosse action Saturday, Brown hosts Penn and first-ranked John Hopkins celebrates homecoming against fourth-ranked Navy.
