To the Editors of The Crimson:
Had I been longer at this University, I might be, perhaps more used to and less bothered by the "dirt" in your editorials (see the discussion of "dirt" in the Economics Department in your April 10 issue.) But your gloating over Professor Eckstein's decision to go on half-time status takes the cake. His decision is a serious loss to the University, to you. Eckstein is one of the best teachers at the University, carrying more than his share of the teaching and advising load and giving more attention to undergraduates than most of his colleagues, myself included. The rather good shape of Ec 10 in recent years owes much to his efforts. Not having him on full time status will be missed by all of us, you included. It is sad that you don't seem to care about this aspect of the matter. Zvi Griliches Professor of Economics
