Former U.S. Olympic team member Tim Sheehy scored his second goal of the night with 25 seconds remaining to lift the New England Whalers to a 3-2 victory over the Cleveland Crusaders last night in the opening game of the World Cup Semi-finals.
Sheehy, a rookie right winger from Boston College, gathered the puck ten feet in front of the Cleveland net and just managed to forehand it through a maze of players for the game-winning goal. The come-from-behind win gave the Whalers a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series.
