Lamont Library will remain open two extra hours Sundays, from 2 p.m. to midnight, although the circulation desk will continue to close at 10 p.m.
The additional two hours on Sunday night are the result of a Freshman Council letter directed to librarians at Lamont and Hilles Library calling for extended weekend library hours, based on student need.
Other proposals included in the letter called for the opening of Lamont and Hilles at 8 a.m. and the closing of both libraries at 2 a.m. on weeknights.
"Not Male Chauvinist"
Although Hilles Library is already open until midnight on Sundays, no further changes have been made in its operating schedule in response to the Council's letter.
Theodore G. Alevizos, librarian of Lamont Library, said yesterday that he would have liked to have seen library hours extended on Saturdays and weeknights, but current financial and staffing difficulties make alterations in the schedule impossible until next Fall.
Alevizos said the additional two hours on Sunday will only require a reshuffling of current library employees and little additional expense.
