Sawyier to Stroke; Crimson Captain Racing for Oxford

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Former Crimson crew captain and Olympian Dave Sawyier '72, currently at Christ Church College, Oxford, will stroke the Oxford eight next Saturday in the Oxford-Cambridge boat race, and rowing enthusiasts watching from the banks say they have never seen a stroke work his crew so hard.

Sawyier, a veteran of coach Harry Parker's rigorous training methods, complained that training was not hard enough.

"The British are a more relaxed nation of oarsmen than the Americans; the training is not what I was used to at Harvard," he said.

Another former Harvard man, Fred Yalouris '71, will cox the Oxford crew this weekend for the second straight year. In spite of Oxford's rash of victories this year under Sawyier's lead. Cambridge is still favored in the race.
