Nationwide Group Moves to Boycott Gulf Oil Products

The national chairwoman of the Gulf Boycott Coalition called yesterday for a consumer boycott of the Gulf Oil Corporation.

Pat M. Roach, speaking before an organizing meeting at the Divinity School, said that Gulf sponsors an oppressive Portuguese colonial regime in Angola.

"We believe Gulf is guilty of unethical, irresponsible business activity," Roach said. "Our goal is to cut Gulf's profits across the board."

Roach called for the formation of a Boston chapter of the Boycott Coalition to promote the boycott among groups in the area. "It's totally possible for different groups working toward different goals to work together," Roach said. "We all want to make Gulf face its moral issues," she added.

Roach will testify March 29 in Washington, D.C., before the House Sub-Committee on Africa, which is investigating U.S. investments in Portuguese colonies.
