Faculty members and administrators should consider allowing their employees and secretaries who walk home to leave early enough to get home before dark, Stephen S. J. Hall, vice president for administration, said yesterday.
But the decision to allow employees to leave early will be left up to their immediate supervisors. Hall said. "I believe in the autonomy of the Faculty, and the plan is in no way University policy," he said.
Hall said Wednesday that he would implement the plan for employees working directly under him. President Bok has supported the idea and suggested it to the Faculty.
Hall's plan is a response to an attack on Barbara Brown, a Harvard secretary, by an unidentified assailant Tuesday night and the murder of Ethel Higonnet, Radcliffe Fellow. Saturday night. Both crimes took place in the Harvard area.
