Big Green Conquers Crimson For Frosh's First Defeat, 33-6

The freshman football team journeyed to Hanover yesterday with a two-game winning streak but lost to the Big Green 3-6.

Dartmouth, now 3-0, was largely an unknown quantity before the game and the first quarter didn't reveal much. Neither team showed much as the Big Green managed a 6-0 lead at the break. The second quarter was also slow, Dartmouth scoring a last-minute touchdown to take a 13-0 lead to the lockers.

The home team came out like lions after the half and the Crimson obligingly played their prey. Dartmouth scored early and often in the quarter to put the game away. After the middle of the period, the only real question was how large the final margin would be.

Starting on about Harvard's own 30-yard line mid-way through the final period, the offense finally began to move. Moving mostly in the air and aided by penalties, the Crimson put in their lone score of the afternoon on a run by Tom Lincoln.

Dartmouth showed itself to be well balanced offensively and defensively. With good passing and running, the Green offense dominated the second half. Defensively, the Dartmouth line was the key factor in containing the Crimson attack.

Fullback Lincoln picked up 73 yards in 11 carries and quarterback Steve O'Brien's passing came through in the clutch. Harvard managed 238 yards total offense. The Crimson was also hurt by four turnovers, three fumbles and an interception.
