To the Editors of The Crimson:
The scandalous treatment of the Shockley affair raises serious questions about the 'moral responsibility' of the SDS. The SDS has once again demonstrated the provinciality of their views, the intolerance and inflexibility of their dogma, and the insecurity of their political stance which makes them unable to tolerate any positions differing from their own.
The mindless and abusive rhetoric of their pamphlet manifests some of the most insidious tactics of demogoguery: they use the Shockley position as a jumping off place for uneducated polemic on IQ tests, presenting ethnic groups as victims of IQ test discrimination. This is a blatantly politick ruse to gain the sympathy of the reader through his ethnic loyalties.
The SDS feels that Shockley should not be allowed to speak because of the 'moral irresponsibility' of his views. The academic community should examine the responsibility of the SDS in their use of terroristic tactics in repressing the freedom of speech.
