Police Seek Harvard Freshman Reported Missing Nine Days

Cambridge Police are searching for Douglas R. Miller '77 who has been missing since October 9.

Miller left his Thayer Hall room last Tuesday morning and has not returned since then, W.C. Burriss Young '55, assistant dean of Freshman, said yesterday.

An all points bulletin, issued last Thursday by the Cambridge Police Department, has uncovered no leads as to his whereabouts, Young said.

Dale Myers '77, one of Miller's roommates said yesterday that he and a third roommate became alarmed when Miller did not return home to dress for work on Tuesday night. Miller works an 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift as a security guard at Hynes Auditorium in Boston. He left his wallet, watch and clothing in his room, Myers said.

"We went over to see the proctor that night and told him that we hadn't seen Doug," Myers said.

Young said he contacted Miller's parents on Wednesday night when the proctor became convinced that Miller's "behavior was not in keeping with the boy."

Miller's father, Frank C. Miller, a major in the Air Force, decided to call the Cambridge Police Department last Thursday, Young said.

Stephanie Muscato, an office manager at Hynes Auditorium, said that Miller is a "very level headed, mature individual. It's just not like him to pick up and not tell anyone," she said.

Joe Flarety, who hired Miller to work at the Auditorium a year ago, said that Miller is a "very independent, well-balanced person" and that he has "no vices."
